Michael Tomita serves as an Energy Analyst at GEM. His dedication to sustainability, resource conservation and climate action led him to green building – to make more efficient use of land, materials and energy. As an energy advocate he believes that design and construction delivery processes must adapt to create healthier living environments, and provide cost-effective energy efficiency solutions to help address the dangers a warming climate has on our living environments.

He has extensive experience working on commercial and residential Title-24, CALGreen, HERS compliance measures, as well as a variety of other green building programs including LEED certification. He delivers the latest green building and energy efficiency solutions value-engineered to meet project goals early in the process. This collaborative approach to the planning and construction delivery processes maximizes the incorporation of value-engineered green features that promote energy efficiency goals on budget. He stays informed of the latest green building and energy efficiency solutions to provide all stakeholders of the planning and building process with the support needed to implement economically feasible green solutions. His ability to provide independent analysis and timely information to coordinate and implement energy management solutions into the design and building of a project makes it successful.

NEW Energy Code Effective January 01, 2023!

July 14, 2022

The 2022 Energy Code now classifies the following as single-family residential buildings: single-family dwellings, duplexes, townhomes of any size, and accessory dwelling units. Low-rise and high-rise multifamily buildings have also been reorganized into one building type and multifamily building requirements have been moved to their own subchapters.
